A public workshop was held at the Gideon Putnam Hotel Ballroom on Thursday, January 21 at 6pm.
The meeting was an introduction to the purpose and anticipated products of this study, but was mainly an interactive workshop to gather ideas and concerns from the public about this critical area of the City.
Many ideas for connections, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and visual improvements to this section of Route 50 were garnered. These ideas have been very useful and we appreciate your input. Thank you!

When Route 9 was redone, the streets were made narrower and granite curbing was installed; both of these are not conducive to road bikers. Therefore, the folks who ride have to avoid this area entirely and use back roads to get around it. I hope that this will be considered more carefully in the Route 50 reworking plan and not rely upon a bike/walk trail through the park as was illustrated in the meeting. By the way, it is against the law to ride a bike on sidewalks; this should always be considered when constructing roads in NY state.

All pathways outside the downtown should be designed as a multi-use trail, like what is being planned for the north side of Geyser Rd. from the Milton line to Route 50. Wide asphalt trails can accomodate both pedestrians and bikers. A traditional sidewalk is not appropriate along Route 50.
